A shift toward luxury outdoor living means endless style, comfort and amenities.
Ah, summer on Cape Cod; sunny days, balmy weather, the air redolent with a light salty breeze. This is a time treasured for relaxation and rejuvenation.
From your living room, you walk through the open French doors and emerge onto a stone patio, platter of canapés and nibbles in hand. You set the tray on a granite countertop and reach into the chiller for a bottle of wine while the sound of jazz fills the air from a wireless sound system. A few of your guests are perched on teak barstools around a raised bar, tracking the Sox on a wide-screen, while others are reclining on comfortable sectional seating under a remote-controlled awning. A waterfall placidly spills fresh, azure water into a pool occupied by your family and friends.
Yes, this is outdoor living.
The Trend Toward High-End
More and more, people are placing greater value on staying at home with family, in the comfort of their outdoor living spaces. Fortunately, outdoor living has soared to a new level of comfort, making for endless features, options and possibilities.
From fire pits to enormous fireplaces; area rugs and fabrics that have the look and feel of indoor living; infinite styles, shapes and materials of outdoor furniture, from sectionals to dining tables, fabricated from, iron, teak or woven vinyl; even interior furnishings capable of withstanding sun and all sorts of weather. Outdoor kitchen and bar features, or audio and video elements with speakers cleverly camouflaged as landscaping rocks, add functionality, recreation and style.
Pesky mosquitos are easily controlled by installing repellant systems. These machines disperse a vaporized fog of all-natural plant oils, providing coverage up to 2,000 square feet and lasting up to 20 hours, and can be plugged in or custom installed. Window box plantings are easily watered using automatic irrigation systems. Outdoor spaces can also be enjoyed long after dark with infinite evening lighting options.
The Ultimate Cape Cod Outdoor Space
Recently, along with a talented landscape design firm and a remarkable contractor, Cheryl McCracken Interiors had the pleasure of completing an outdoor living space on the Cape.
The finished project features a kitchen and bar with granite counters surrounded by 12 teak barstools, and cabinetry capable of withstanding Cape Cod weather. The cooking and refrigeration areas are focused on two outdoor televisions. An enormous outdoor fireplace is surrounded by comfortable seating, while a dining table seats 12. A remote-controlled retractable awning shades a woven vinyl sectional upholstered in a comfortable Sunbrella fabric, and additional dining for six. The Nano wall – panels of glass doors that fold open to create a seamless area between living room and the outdoors – effortlessly enhances the setting. Finally, the entire space is focused around an infinity-edge pool overlooking the Atlantic.
With endless selections, features and amenities available, why should you stay indoors on a beautiful Cape Cod afternoon? Quite literally, the sky’s the limit.
