About Website Design Services
Do I need my own domain name?
Yes. Your domain name is the site address that visitors will type into their browser in order to access your website. For example, my domain name is fcdesign.net. You can have a main domain name, and then additional domains that point to it, if you’d like. For example, I have an additional domain name, fatcat.design, which points directly to my main domain, fcdesign.net.
Domains are registered (purchased) through a domain name registrar. Register.com and GoDaddy.com are two very common registrars. Domains can be purchased for any length of time beginning with one year, and you will need to renew your domain(s) before the renewal date in order to keep your site visible on the web.
Do I need website hosting?
Yes. Websites are hosted, or stored, on servers (think of a server as a special computer), and web hosting provides that service and technology.
Do you provide website hosting?
Yes.
How long does it take to design and build a website?
The time it takes to produce a website depends on the site’s features, functionality and complexity, as well as how ready-to-go your content is from the beginning. Typically, it takes around eight weeks to design, build, test, and launch a website from beginning to end.
How much does a website design cost?
Pardon the pun – this is the “million-dollar question.” Just like the cost to build a home depends upon size, style, finishes and specifications, the cost to build a website depends on features, functionality and complexity. Generally, Fat Cat Design fees start between $3,500-$4,000, depending on your specific needs and requirements.
Will my website be mobile-responsive?
Yes.
Will you write content for my website?
Yes. If you don’t have content, or you only have minimal content and you don’t know where to start, we can work together to produce your website content for you. In some cases we may determine that working with a third-party copywriter is necessary.
Do you provide training?
Yes. We provide you with comprehensive video training and ebook training, along with custom video tutorials specific to your website’s distinct features and functionality.
What is a Content Management System?
A Content Management System, or CMS, is a platform that allows you to update and change the content of your website yourself, without technical knowledge or skills. This is ideal because you don’t have to come back to me every time you want a photo changed or added, text altered here or there, a new page or new blog entry implemented.
What is a Care Plan?
Your website Care Plan encompasses ongoing security, maintenance, updates, backups, and monitoring of your site, your website files, and its platform. Implementing a proper website Care Plan is critical, and we promise you: failing to manage and maintain these elements is a recipe for disaster, leaving your site vulnerable to malware, hackers, or just plain breaking. Care Plans are mandatory for client websites designed and hosted through Fat Cat Design.
